Early Sunday morning, passers-by in Saltlake’s BA Block got a surprise when they spotted several Aadhaar cards scattered on the footpath right beside the Trinamool Congress party office. Local residents quickly informed Bidhannagar Police, who reached the spot and collected the cards. People in the area are wondering how such important identity documents ended up on the road beside TMC party office.
Bidhannagar City Police have started checking CCTV footage from nearby cameras to find out who left or dropped the cards there. Officers say the cards were not damaged and were lying in a small bundle. Some residents feel someone might have lost them while visiting the ward office, while others suspect the cards could have been stolen and then dumped after being of no use.
Police are trying to contact all of them whose aadhaar cards have been recovered so they can collect their documents safely. Finding Aadhaar cards in public places always raises concern because these cards contain personal details and are linked to bank accounts and government benefits and that too amid the ongoing SIR process. Police have urged citizens to keep such documents secure and report losses immediately. The investigation is on, and officers promise to get to the bottom of this incident soon.
